1.75 mm is the standard diameter size fo the 3D printing filament. There are, also, filaments with 2.85mm diameter and they are usually for soft, flexible materials.
You don’t have to change the filament diameter every time you start a new slicing job, rather, you set it the first time you open Cura and then leave it there.
